To make an appointment for an introductory, free 20 minute appointment please use the form on the Book a Consultation page giving me some brief details of your request. Alternatively you could phone, message or email me directly.
I aim to reply to your initial enquiry within 24 hours. We can discuss availability and negotiate a mutually convenient time for the sessions during the introductory call.
I currently do not have a waiting list and have availability for new clients.
Everything you tell me is held in the strictest confidence. The only time I would share what we talk about is if there is a risk of harm to you or someone else that we cannot manage in the room or through my clinical supervision.
There are some legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as child protection and the protection of vulnerable adults where I have a duty of care to report any risk of abuse. Wherever possible, I would discuss this with you before talking to anyone else.
Each session is 1 hour long but the frequency of the sessions is up to you. Many clients start off with weekly sessions and this can then be reviewed as our work together progresses.
Payment is due 24 hours prior to the appointment to confirm the session. My account details are on the bottom of the contract which I will send to you prior to the free introductory session.
I know that life happens and sometimes cancelling an appointment is unavoidable. Please let me know by text or email as soon as possible so we can rearrange. If this is within 24 hours of our appointment and we are unable to reschedule for the same week then the missed session will still be charged in full.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. The details of my membership can be found at BACP details
It may be that you gain sufficient benefit within a few sessions or it may take longer. We will discuss how many sessions you feel you need at the start and then review this as the work progresses. You are free to end therapy whenever you wish; it can be beneficial to plan for this so we can work towards the ending. If I feel that further sessions are no longer in your interest or I am unable to help further then I will discuss this with you.
Counselling is working with a trained professional in a confidential space to explore and address the issues that you are finding challenging. Counselling is not about giving advice but developing a trusting relationship where you can safely explore the ways of making positive change in your life.
There are many different approaches in counselling and all counsellors are different. I work from a humanistic-existential stance which means I work with you to explore how you exist in the world, your experiences and the choices available to you to provide you with the best outcomes.
All people are unique and the type of counselling which suits one person may not suit another. Information on other counselling approaches can be found at BACP to help you decide what is right for you.
